Bravo to Anna Wintour for a lovely Vogue cover and spread on hot couple of the moment Kanye West and Kim Kardashian! I was frankly stunned by the overreaction to the cover, which erupted on Twitter and Facebook. I couldn’t disagree more. Read on for my view.
As everything changes in this great land, so much stays the same. A year and a half ago, we got the news that Trayvon Martin was yet another young African-American teen murdered after being profiled by a vigilante. The evidence against Zimmerman was so obvious and damning that TGATP rested assure that finally, this time, justice would actually be done. But with the unjust verdict still smarting two weeks later, I am I am disappointed and disillusioned that nothing seems to have changed, when it comes to the underlying racism that fuels fear of Black men in this country. Here is my take on this shameful episode in American history.
At a time when America is making amazing strides in the areas of both LGBT and Immigration rights, we alarmingly seem to be taking a step backwards when it comes to eradicating racism. I am shocked and pissed off by the racist idiotic actions of both Paula Deen and surprisingly, Oprah Winfrey this week.
Just two weeks ago, I was telling my friend how I wanted to revamp the site and have a leaner, fresher look for That Girl At The Party. Well careful, what you wish in this Age of Aquarius Instant Karma era. Because last Sunday, the site started to fail! I watched, in horror, as features started to act up While the site is mostly working again, I am developing a new fresh look for the site that hopefully y’all will still love. So please bear with us through the changes!
TGATP is saddened by a week of terrorism from some wingnut and his brother in Boston and irresponsible partisan idiocy from the US Senators, who while pocketing gun lobby blood money, turned their backs on the victims and families of gun violence including the children of Newtown. The blood of all of these victims is on their hands and they are a disgrace to their parties, this country, and this peaceful universe.
While I mostly like to keep TGATP light, sometimes things happen that are so outrageous that I just have to speak out about them! Such was the case of the horrible CNN reporting on the rightful guilty verdict in the Steubenville rape trial. I wanted to jump into my TV and slap both Poppy Harlow and Candy Crowley, who openly sympathized more with the two brutal rapists than the poor victim!
As Obama enters his second term, TGATP sends prayers and blessings to him and his family and hopes that the Congress will actually work together to rebuilt this great nation.
