Gosh, can’t believe how many really great films there were this year! I was however, almost ready to boycott the Oscars over the glaring snub of “The Butler,” which I feel is a better movie that “12 Years A Slave”. While I liked the latter, “The Butler” was an African-American epic! Another inexplicable snub was “August Osage County”which featured a powerhouse of acting from just about everyone involved. That Margo Martindale and Chris Cooper were not nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Actor, respectively was also a wrongful omission. Here are my predictions!
TGATP Screen
Despite some crazy irritating holes in the Aaron Guzikowski scripted plot, Prisoners is a one of the best films of the year. A cinematic tour-de-force of great acting, this film will definitely be on everyone’s top 10 lists for 2013, including TGATP’s and is certain to be an Oscar contender in many categories.

Home invasion never seemed more terrifying! As the Davidson family gather for a family get together they discover they are not alone as some univited guests have shown up for dinner.
More “Scream” than “The Conjuring”, You’re Next is twisty, good fun and a must see for every horror movie fan. You’ll laugh, you’ll scream, you’ll shout at the scream and you’ll have a blast! I’m all ready for “You’re Next 2”!
Summer 2013 has seen a slew of entertaining films and the next few weeks promise to continue this great trend! Here are the films that both entertained and inspired me some of which you can see now and some soon to be opening.
While Brian Helgeland’s biopic “42” is an ok movie, for me it lacked one crucial element – the man the film is supposed to be about Jackie Robinson! I wanted this to be the definitive movie on Robinson’s life but instead walked away with as many questions about him as I came to the theater with. Calling on Spike Lee to make a true biopic on this iconic hero!
The best scary movies – like “Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 – leave you scared once you LEAVE the theatre and are in the dark confines of your home. However, The Evil Dead is cartoonish and will not jar your nerves even if you hear a bump in the night.
Combining stunning action sequences, a cameo from action legend Bruce Willis and the unforgettable campy one-liners we have all come to expect from this genre, GI Joe: Retaliation is sure to please. From rip-roaring start to nail biting finish, this baby delivers and is a must-see for any serious action fan!
Oz the Great and Powerful is a visually stunning prequel to “Wizard of Oz” that stands on its own as an instant family classic. With adorable and fun new characters, China Girl, Findley and the Tinkers mixed with familiar ones, Glenda the Good Witch, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Munchkins, this new cinematic take on the Oz story will thrill and delight audiences of all ages.
