TGATP doesn’t understand all the hoopla around Bridesmaids! It just wasn’t funny. I am well past tired of the “Revenge of the Nerds” thing that is going on in Hollywood and the society at large. Ugly, mean, unhappy, nerdy, playa hating, desperate, miserable, losers are not relatable to TGATP and thus, I don’t root for them! As a failed bake shop owner with no reedeming qualities, Kristen Whig’s “Annie” is just a hater, plain and simple. She’s the kind of frenemy that no smart gal should have anywhere around. I found the attempt to demonize the beautiful rich girl Helen (Rose Byrne), disturbing and annoying. Bryne character was besides Maya Rudolph as the bride, the only likable and sensible female character. In the male department, Jon Hamm’s character was too over the top abusive. American men may lack charm and American woman may put up with them, but this was just outsized obnoxiousness. Annie has so much self-hate that rather than support her romantic relationship with the adorable cop, (Chris Dowd) we feel sorry for him. She needs years of therapy not a man! And in trying to be “a female Hangover”, there were scenes, like the bridal shop toilet scene, that were vile and gross. I was repulsed as opposed to entertained by this mess of a film.
