The Mad Men-ization of pop culture continues with a new limited edition collection from Banana Republic. Yesterday, TGATP got to advance preview the line with my fellow journos at a special event held at the Banana Republic on 5th Avenue. We were made over Mad Men-style with pieces from the collection and hair and makeup applications. The event was a blast and the only thing missing was Jon Hamm in the gift bag!
Rather than simply recreate the styles of the era, Banana Republic Creative Director Simon Kneen, in partnership with Emmy nominated, Mad Men Wardrobe Designer Janie Bryant, updated the styles of the ’60s to stunning effect. The inspiration for the line was a return to dressing up but not in a stodgy or update way. Bryant states, “I have always loved dressing up. And I know that when you feel better in your clothes, you feel better all the way around.”
From adorable black dresses to a darling grey suit and leopard print cardigan and trench – I want the whole line! I am positively MAD for the pieces and was so happy to be able to add the lace tipped black dress to my fall wardrobe! And as one, who is appalled by the slovenly little boy look that so many American men sport, I hope that some of them will make their way over to their nearest Banana Republic store and get their inner Don Draper on!
Below a gallery of TGATP favorite things from the line. The collection drops today – August 11 – with a special Mad Men themed cocktail party for customers. If you are a woman of style, you will definitely want to add at least one piece to your fall wardrobe, so snap one up asap because this is a limited edition!
