Continuing her activism around the little discussed topic of depression in the African-American community, Terrie M. Williams renowned author, mental health/youth advocate, PR guru (and TGATP favorite person) addressed a crowd of over 10,000 women at the “Woman, Thou Art Loosed” conference held at The Potter’s House in Dallas, TX. Williams was personally invited by Bishop T.D. Jakes to share her personal testimony about depression and to discuss her compelling and critically acclaimed book Black Pain: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting.
“I am honored to have been asked to share my story–sometimes depression doesn’t look like depression, it can manifest itself as anger, distraction or guilt–for Black women who are dealing with racism, poverty and other life stresses, it can look like ‘this is just life'” said Williams. The audience sat riveted with what Ms.Williams had to say on this vital topic. Joining Terrie on stage, Bishop Jakes informed the audience that Terrie’s book was a definite must read from an authentic voice. Following Terrie’s testimony, The Potter’s Houses’ social networks were “blowing up” with positive feedback.
