Unfortunately, due to unforeseen extended recovery time from my Coolsculpting demo (more on that in a later post!), I was not able to fully attend StarChefs this year. However, I did make it to the Rising Stars Gala which is always one of the best food events of the year!
This years chefs and their dishes were: Joe Campanale of Dell’Anima, L’Artusi, and Anfora – Raclette with Sopresata, Potatoes, Ciabatta, and Mustards, Aaron Chambers of Boulud Sud – Octopus a la Plancha, Marcona Almonds, Arugula, and Jerez Vinaigrette, Yuhi Fujinaga of Bar Basque – Spanish Mackerel Escabeche, Shawn Gawie of Corton – Black Sesame Royale, Concord Grape-Yuzu Granite and Cocoa Nib-Sesame Crumble, Vikas Khanna of Junoon – Lamb Matke Wala, Hooni Kim of Danji – Spicy Pork Belly Sliders with Scallion Salsa, Shuna Lydon of Peels – 3 of 1 Cream Pie: Roasted Bananas, Chocolate Cream, Coconut Custard and Chantilly, Jenny McCoy of Craft – Raspberry-Pistachio Clafoutis, Lavender Ice Cream, and Pistachio Nougatine, John Mooney of Bell, Book, & Candle – Cervena Venison and Black Bean Chili with Vintage Cheddar, Jesse Schenker of Recette – Austrailian Beef Carpaccio, Burrata, Tomato Jam, Porcini Puree ad Watercress, Adam Schop of Nuela – Peruvian Chicken, Aji Verde, Huancaina Sauce, and Papas Fritas, Hillary Sterling of A Voce – Caprino Gnocchi, Brussels Sprouts, and Speck.
And as usual, my favorite dishes were not the winners. My picks were the positively orgasmic dessert dishes from Jenny McCoy of Craft and Shawn Gawie of Corton.
What is a Rising Star?
The Rising Stars are chosen annually by the StarChefs.com Advisory Board, which is made up of more than 20 of the country’s top chefs. Final decisions are based on in-person interviews and tastings with the nominees. The up-and-coming Rising Star Chefs represent the vanguard of America’s contemporary dining scene and are featured on StarChefs.com. Ultimately, creativity, ambition, exquisite presentation, and most importantly, delicious food, gains a participating chef the StarChefs Rising Stars Award.
