“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
I am a Black woman and the daughter of a WWII and Korean War vet. I am also related to two Tuskegee Airmen. These men fought for their country even though they were not allowed the full rights of citizenship! My mother and father could not even freely vote, sit at the lunch counter, or ride the front of the bus and had to endure abuse from white people for their first 35 and 42 years, respectively. YET they instilled in their kids a love of country. On top of that, I was born with an inability to tolerate any kind of injustice, cruelty, or inequality. I have participated in every movement for good including: freeing Nelson Mandela, making Martin Luther King Day a holiday, passing the ERA, stopping nuclear proliferation, freeing Mumia Abu-Jamal and Leonard Peltier, expanding voting rights for all, freeing the wrongfully incarcerated, reproductive health rights, ending gun violence, and most recently, diversity in Hollywood, education, and the workforce. My whole life has been dedicated to trying to better an imperfect nation. I have spent my whole life loving my country, even though its people and policies continually persecuted and disrespected my ancestors, my family, and me.
I have had to put up with racism from both white people and black people in this country for over 50 years! First, there were the years of being bullied in school by ignorant black kids because I am light-skinned, tested talented and gifted, played violin, got good grades, and came from a two-parent, upper-middle class family. I was called an “Oreo” and too light and literally, hit in classrooms. Then, after starting my career in the UK and having a brief reprieve from racism, I came home to career-restricting, white American racism in every field I have worked in for the past 33 years. From the music industry to the film/tv biz to activism to influencing to advertising, there have been racist Karens blocking my way. America has been a lot of racist nonsense. Yet, I kept fighting for others and creating solutions to solve these issues for others. I kept dreaming of a more perfect nation.
Well as of January 20, 2025 that will no longer be true. I am done with the unrequited love of America. And, I am done with fighting for people too dumb to stand up for themselves! In the days that have followed the election of a white Christian fascist, anti-American government, it has been revealed that the same people that have always happily and actively participated in the oppression of Black women— white women — voted against their own self-interest to do so again. White women idiotically voted 53% for a man that is a convicted rapist, serial sexual assaulter, and serial philanderer, who stripped them of their reproductive rights. Why? Because their racism superseded their self-interest. I know this mindset all too well from my business dealings with some of them. Many are willing to cut their own noses off to spite their faces as long as someone of color is adversely affected. It’s been going on for centuries.
That said and despite my personal experiences, I still had hope. Surely, Americans weren’t going to be stupid enough to re-elect trump, the worst President in US history and a criminally insane, moronic, racist, misogynistic, narcissistic psychopathic, serial sexual assaulter, serial adulterer, pathological liar, 5 time draft-dodging vet hater, convicted rapist, convicted felon, tax evading, fraudster, coup-staging, wannabe dictator, and traitor with a fascist playbook he renamed Agenda 47, which is the same as Project 2025.
Surely, my fellow and sister Americans couldn’t support The Orange Menace’s Project 25 agenda which calls for total immunity for cops to kill black people, the monitoring of women’s menstrual cycles and pregnancies and criminalization of our reproductive health choices, the elimination of public education, the FBI, DOJ, CDC, FDA, FEMA & National Weather Service that help with these increasing hurricanes, all gun control measures, all environmental regulations, Obamacare that provides healthcare for 45 million Americans and makes insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions, all voting rights, civil rights, and LGBTQ rights including gay marriage, freedom of speech and religion. Surely, they could not support a man and fascist party with a manifesto calling for the persecution of anyone that does not take an oath to trump, unfettered surveillance of Americans, the elimination of key elements of the Constitution and the consolidation of all power into the Executive branch. Surely, they, did not support his plan to pull us out of NATO and allow Russia to take over Ukraine and Israel to totally annihilate the Palestinians while instituting a Muslim ban in the US, and more terrible things that will totally destroy the America we all love, and essentially end our democracy.
But then they did.
So now I have messages for you:
First, I am done. I am no longer going to care when things you voted for happen to you. I only care about me and mine and those Americans who did not vote against their own interests!
To the Muslims that voted for him to put a noose around their damn necks and have signed their relatives death certificates in GAZA: it’s going to be real interesting to watch how those protest votes work out for y’all.
To the 21% of black people (8% black women, 13% black men) who are so self-hating that you voted for the son of a klansman and lifelong, racist, white supremacist who has vowed to grant the cops total immunity to kill black and brown Americans AND plans to call the National Guard on protestors who protest this murders over a black woman: going to be real interesting to see how you fare when cops go on an unfettered killing spree in your neighborhoods.
To the Teamsters and other unions: going to be real interesting to see your faces as Elon and this moron completely dismantle workers rights and unions. NYPD Firefighters say “bye bye” to that 911 healthcare fund, dummies!
To the 53% white women, that voted to end their own bodily autonomy: going to be sad to watch you and your daughters die from not being able to get the health care you need. Y’all are a pathetic lost cause and have voted against your own interests in the last 3 elections. So NO, I will not be at any marches!
To elderly poor and middle-class white folks, going to also be interesting to see how you fare without healthcare or Social Security.
To people living in red states, who think you somehow “owned the Libs”: good luck with life without Medicaid, SNAP, because most of you live in the poorest states. Good luck without FEMA for all those hurricanes and tornadoes, too.
Y’all fd yourself up real bad. In fact, people that voted for trump, I don’t care what happens to any of you when he starts stripping you of everything. You were warned. Yet you allowed your racist, self-hate, sexism, and stupidity to overtake your common sense.
I am done trying to help you. I am now sipping tea and eating popcorn while I watch y’all fuck around and find out and get what is coming to you! Don’t come crying to me or the other 92% of Black American women that tried to save your asses. We are DONE!
