I’m going to say it, the “Barbie” movie was fun. However, just because it made a ton of money does NOT make it a great or Oscar-worthy film. Neither Greta Gerwig, Ryan Gosling, or Margo Robbie achieved that excellence in “Barbie”. The feminist outrage that Greta and Margo were not nominated for work that wasn’t their best —even if if did make lots of money —is greatly misplaced and does not serve us well. After nearly two years involvement as producers of “Seduced and Abandoned,” Larry & Michele Herbert and Alan & Marla Helene toasted the success of the film with a private party. Following a screening of the documentary at the IFC Center in New York City’s West Village, guests of the Herberts and the Helenes, all joined in the celebration at The Top of The Standard in New York City.
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling and Carrie Mulligan, Drive is the best film noir of the new millenium and one of the best films of the year! I predict Oscar nods for Refn, who won best director for Drive at Cannes, Brooks for Supporting Actor, Drive for Best Movie, and maybe even, Gosling for Actor.
