On Friday, model Elettra Wiedemann, co-founder James Marshall, and Vogue Magazine’s Meredith Melling Burke hosted an esteemed crowd of notables to launch Model Behavior, a charitybuzz-hosted online auction benefitting One Frickin Day (OFD.org). Conceived by stylist Nick Steele as his One Frickin Day contribution, this one-of-a-kind auction event united the worlds of fashion and philanthropy in a unique way to truly create change for those in need. Auction items are available for bid now through December 7 at www.charitybuzz.com/OneFrickinDay.
An esteemed group of the world’s top models, including Iman, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Coco Rocha, Chanel Iman, Tyra Banks, Brooke Shields, Elle Macpherson, Amber Valetta, Shalom Harlow, Hilary Rhoda, Jessica Stam and many others have agreed to donate a dress they wore “one day” to benefit OFD’s ongoing partnership with The Solar Electric Light Fund (Self.org) & Partners in Health (pih.org). Through this partnership, OFD can contribute to the efforts of SELF & PIH to solar-electrify clinics in some of the world’s poorest communities and provide essential and sustainable lifesaving resources to these communities. Through the installation of solar panels, these facilities – most of which have no access to electricity – will be able to provide lifesaving care after dark, refrigeration for medications and blood, proper sterilization of equipment and the ability to operate medical equipment.
OFD first partnered with SELF & PIH to solar-electrify a clinic in Burundi in 2008, which now provides vastly expanded healthcare services to over 60,000 patients. All funds raised through Model Behavior will benefit public Ministry of Health clinics in Haiti and Rwanda. The objectives: 1) Bring solar health care to new remote locations, 2) increase the electrical capacity at pilot health facilities to be able to provide new PIH-specified levels of care and 3) demonstrate a remote health care model to the international health community.
