Was absolutely thrilled to meet Jo Jo Starbuck and Ken Shelley at the Ice Theatre of New York’s Annual Gala! For those of you who don’t know them, they were huge skating stars back in the ’70’s ( three time pairs champions and two time Olympians). Jo Jo is currently the Artistic Director of the Ice Capades.
This year’s gala honored Olympic skater Paul Wylie and featured a performance, followed by cocktails and dinner. I am becoming an old softie, as some of the performances were so lovely, they brought tears to my eyes. Skating choreographer Lar Lubovitch, was honored along with Wylie, in a ceremony hosted by Rosalynn Summers.
Under the old skating score system, I would give the event a 5.7 as there was a rather unfortunate incident committed by the event staff, who instructed guests to take empty seats then unseated them mid-meal; which was a major party don’t. However, the performance was lovely, the cocktail party was done perfectly, and the crowd was a fun and engaging one.
