TGATP was very excited about the release of Scream 4. But, unfortunately it is a tired and stale rehash of its three predecessors. The story in a nutshell: Our heroine, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) having survived three rounds of Ghostface killings, is now the author of self-help books for crime victims. But while, visiting her cousin Jill in her hometown the slayings begin again. All our familiar favorites are present, including Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). And newcomers Emma Roberts as Sidney’s cousin, Jill, and Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin are excellent. But Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson don’t bring us anything fresh and new. The plot is too predictable, isn’t scary, and plays more as comedy. The body count is high but the actual chills few. I would love to see Scream 5 be a totally revamped vehicle. Perhaps it could be re-imagined by Rob Zombie or Eli Roth, which would amp up the horror quotient.
