5 Reasons To Love Living In New York City!

New York is more than just a city, as a famous song once said “It’s a state of mind”.  The buzzing metropolis that is New York is somewhere that, once visited, is never forgotten.  But what is it about New York that keeps people coming back for more?  Here are five reasons to love living in New York that will resonate with any individuals that have ever lived in or visited this magical place.

1. It’s a cultural paradise.

New York offers enough art galleries and museums to keep the hungriest of culture vultures satisfied.  Art buffs can choose from such mighty global players as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim, Museum of Modern Art and The Whitney Museum of American Art.   Add to that a healthy theater scene on and off Broadway, world class opera houses (Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera), classical music at Carnegie Hall and thousands of small art galleries and studios dotted around this bustling creative city, and there is something to keep even the most demanding of art fans occupied.

2.  It’s a shopaholic’s dream.

Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue is home to many upscale retail outlets that are certain to put a smile on the face of any shopper on a mission.  With famous names such as Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Saks, Tiffany’s, Cartier, Gucci, Armani, Versace and the department stores Macy’s and Bloomingdales, this part of town can be a serious drain on the credit card. For haute couture fashion and more eye-watering prices, head for Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side.  Conversely, bargain hunters should make a trip to Canal Street, near Broadway, where the goods are cheaper and the atmosphere livelier.

3.  It’s got diverse places to live.

There is something for everyone in New York City when it comes to accommodations.  The real estate market is fiercely competitive and prospective candidates need to give themselves adequate time for a thorough search.  Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx are all teeming with life and there are neighborhoods to suit all tastes and pockets.

To get the full New York experience, it helps to live there, and it’s good to know there are plenty of options available.  Types of place to live in New York City range from basic walk-ups to buildings served by elevators and doormen, to the grander townhouses, brownstones and lofts of the Upper West and East Sides.  Since many NY York apartments are small, placing furniture and belongings in a safe place, such as Brooklyn storage, is a convenient, and often necessary, option.  I simply had to move most of my extensive wardrobe into storage until I can have that five bedroom flat with walk-in closet that every New York gal dreams of!

4.  There are icons everywhere.

A stroll around New York is like walking through a movie set.  Residents are spoiled by the NY icons on offer, from yellow taxis to Central Park, The Chrysler Building, Statue of Liberty, the Flatiron, Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge – with all these world famous sights on their doorsteps New Yorkers can sit back and revel in the reflected glory.

5.  It’s a city of taste sensations.

From Italian to Ethopian to Egyptian to Thai to Classic American – every world cuisine is represented in this melting pot city.  Of course, there are the traditional delis and thousands of coffee shops serving New York’s favorite beverage.  But, because NY is home to the most diverse cultures in the world, you will also find every kind of ethnic cuisine represented.  Whether dining in elegant French restaurants or grabbing a hot dog off a street vendor, there is something in New York for all tastes and budgets.
