Style Basics You Should Be Reviewing Constantly

When it comes to fashion, style icon Tom Ford once stated that dressing well is a “form of good manners”. It’s always nice to exhibit good manners. Keep in mind that you don’t need to have designer clothing and the latest fashions to dress well.

In most cases, it’s all about dressing for the occasion and maintaining a wardrobe of solid foundational pieces. You can always accessorize with trendy garments. However, in order to really maintain a good wardrobe, there are a few style basics you should always review each season. Consider these pieces, and make sure they’re hanging in your closet.

Cardigans

Purchase a few cardigans in classic colors like red, navy blue, white, and black. They’re really easy to throw over a sundress when it gets cooler in the evening. You can wear a cardigan over a blouse. For added flair, purchase a cardigan or two in a different print. Animal print and houndstooth are some fun prints that rarely go out of style.

Classic Black Pumps

Whether it’s time to step out for a ladies’ night out or head to a new interview, a great pair of black pumps will never fail you. A pointed toe or rounded toe will work well. Additionally, patent leather is a polished option. If you want to add a different spin on the classic pumps, get a pair of slingbacks.

Jeans

Blue jeans are always essential items in any woman’s closet. Purchase a few dark denim options for dress-down Fridays at work. A pair of light blue jeans is appropriately casual for an afternoon at the movies. Always make sure to get your jeans tailored. Jeans last a long time, so tailoring is worth the investment.

White Button-up Shirts

It doesn’t really matter where you’re going. A button-up shirt instantly makes a woman look polished. If you’re going to a gala, you can pair a button-up shirt with a full-length tulle skirt. You can just as easily wear a button-up shirt with blue jeans and a pair of loafers.

As you collect button-up tops, you’ll want to get rid of ones that don’t fit. As you purchase one, get rid of two to avoid clutter. You can sell old clothes online so that, while you’re freeing up space in your closet, you’re also earning money. That, in turn, allows you to update your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Flats

Unless you’re someone who lives in heels, it’s good to invest in a few pairs of flats. Not only are flats comfortable, they can also pull a look together. Find a pair of navy-blue flats and a pair of black flats. It’s also a great idea to choose a nude pair of flats. Nude flats are easy to throw on with a dress or a pair of slacks. For variety, get a fun-colored pair of flats for each season. Yellow, hot pink, and turquoise are great options.

Little Black Dress

A little black dress is stylishly versatile because you can wear it with a cardigan to the workplace. After work, you can take off the cardigan, add a red lip and some pumps for a happy hour. Make sure that the hemline is just above the knee to be appropriate for more occasions.

Purse

This is the one item that you’ll want to invest some money in. A good-quality designer bag will easily last you many years. Choose a classic color like brown or black. Well-made leather bags are typically low-maintenance, but they’re always in style.

Classic Jewelry

A pearl necklace and a pair of pearl earrings are classy for weddings, a major presentation at work, and a visit to church. A simple tennis bracelet is also understated yet stunningly beautiful to include and keep maintained in a wardrobe.

As long as you have these pieces in your closet, it’ll be difficult to complain about not having anything to wear. It’ll be easy and effortless to get ready in the morning. You’ll easily have items for each season, and you’ll know what to get rid of after each season as well!
