Regular flip-flops take a terrible toll on your feet. They are too flat for your arches and force your foot to unnaturally grip the ground. They are not right for walking long distances, running (forget running for the bus in them, I recently tried!), or lifting and carrying. Thus wearing standard flip flops is best saved for the beach or following a pedicure. However, there are a host of great brands like FitFlop and Vionic that make modernized flip flops that are both comfy and healthy for your feet. These brands have all received the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Seal Of Acceptance which assures you are wearing a shoe that will not harm your feet.
FitFlop Flip
I love everything from this brand that expanded from just to shoes and sneakers. With microwobbleboard technology, this awesome take on flip-flops gives your feet a mini-massage all over as you walk.. I live in my Flips in orange from last year and am mad for this lovely pair in pink.
Vionic Tide II Toe Post Sandal
When I first started TGATP I was blessed to discover this brand at a breakfast event hosted by Andrew Weill, who is a member of the Vionic Innovation Lab. Ironically, I was wearing flat flip flops on that day and Dr. Weill immediately hipped me to why I should never wear them again. He gifted me with my first pair of Vionic’s on that day and I have been hooked on the brand every since. This year, I am jonesing for this pair!
OOfos Oolala
This is another brand that takes great care to make sure that your feet are kept healthy. Made of their patented Oofoam they absorb 37% more shock with every step than traditional footwear foam, which reduces stress in sore feet, knees and backs.
Chacos Women’s Flip EcoTread™
I have about 6 pairs of Chacos and I love them! This year, I am eyeing this adorable “flip without the flop” in orange. Chacos flips last way beyond your average summer sandal with smart design and function in mind.
