Visit California’s
newly launched eight-part video series, takes viewers on a scenic journey through California’s beyond-the-gateway regions – from idyllic byways and wine country destinations, to historic honky-tonks and natural wonders.

Housed on Visit California’s Dream365TV network, and also viewable on YouTube, the series inspires viewers to take the road less-traveled and experience the wonders of the state’s diverse destinations. Each episode showcases a different location with insights and insider tips from local experts:

·         In California’s Deserts region, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is California’s only dark sky community. Stargazers from all of the world flock to this park and visitors can enjoy everything from 2.5-hour tours to overnight stays under the stars.

·         Located in the North-East part of the state, in the heart of Shasta Cascade, Lake Almanor is an awe-inspiring, tranquil destination near Lassen Volcanic National Park.

·         The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway, centrally located between Yosemite and Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and roughly 100 miles long, features amazing vistas authentic to visiting the High Sierras, a century ago.

·         In the foothills of Gold Country, Murphy’s offers high-quality wines made possible by the region’s unique micro climate. At these small wineries, the owners are the ones making and pouring the wine.

·         In Gilroy, the Northern gateway to the Central Coast, a rare form of art is found in the Circus Trees of Gilroy Gardens. The elaborately grafted trees complement 21 rides built specifically for kids to learn about nature.

·         Along the North Coast, Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands offers 1700 wild, undeveloped acres perfect for hiking and a view of the ocean – and, between November and April, excellent whale-watching.

·         Big Bear Lake, located at a 2,000-meter elevation in the Inland Empire, is a breathtaking alpine setting in Southern California, known for its snow but also an epic place for hiking, biking and off-roading – with its hundreds of miles of road terrain.

·         Traditional country music is celebrated in the Central Valley in Bakersfield, with the city’s unique musical style known as the Bakersfield Sound. Music fans head to Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace and the last of the city’s original honky-tonks, Trout’s.

The videos were produced through Visit California’s rural marketing program, and each location was sourced from industry members serving on Visit California’s Rural Committee. To complement the program, Visit California has also produced additional Hidden Gems content on VisitCalifornia.com and on social media – taking consumers on an epic virtual road trip spotlighting each region on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
