To celebrate the publication of their latest novel FROZEN: Heart of Dread, Book One, best-selling author Melissa de la Cruz and co-author Michael Johnston hosted a book party at Tyler Rollins Fine Art on Thursday, September 26, 2013.

Known for her award-winning novels for teens and young adults, de la Cruz is also the author of the hit series Blue Bloods and Witches of East End, each of which Johnston co-created. With the success of Witches of East End, de la Cruz has turned the novel into a Lifetime television series that will air this fall, starring Julia Ormond and Jenna Dewan-Tatum.  The duo’s latest novel FROZEN has already received various critically acclaimed reviews, making it a must-read this season.

Combining both authors’ love for adventure stories with a twist of epic fantasy, FROZEN is an action packed thrill-ride combining mystery, adventure, romance and magic, while also serving as a shrewd commentary on the timely environmental issues facing our planet. Set in the future after the “Big Freeze,” FROZEN follows a young female blackjack dealer from New Vegas, who is in search of a paradise where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise—and most importantly a place where she will not be persecuted even if her darkest secret comes to light.

“Everything we have ever talked about is in this book,” de la Cruz said. “If you like the book, then you kind of like us.”

Former New Yorkers, de la Cruz and Johnston were joined by many close friends and fans including reality television personality Alex McCord, art gallery director Tyler Rollins, and writer Ben Widdicombe, in addition to Penguin Group team members and various other literature enthusiasts.

Upon arrival, all who entered the gallery were greeted with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. In keeping with the science fiction and post-ice age theme of FROZEN, guests had the option to indulge in gelatin cocktails that were shaped like mythical creatures.  In addition, frozen fruit in the form of beautifully crafted ice was provided by Früzen Ice, which made for a perfect pairing with the wine and champagne served.

While celebrating the new novel, guests enjoyed the artwork of Patricia Perez Eustaquio and its current display throughout Tyler Rollins Fine Art Gallery. Founded in 2006 and opening in the heart of New York City’s Chelsea art district in 2008, Tyler Rollins Fine Art Gallery presents solo exhibitions of Southeast Asian contemporary pieces in the context of America’s contemporary art scene.

Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston’s FROZEN: Heart of Dread, Book One was published by the Penguin Group on September 17, 2013, and is currently available both in book stores and online.  For more information on both de la Cruz and Johnston, as well as their previously written novels, please visit: www.melissa-delacruz.com.
