The Winemakers on PBS

As a reality TV Producer, I am always excited when I hear of projects that are a cut above the normal schlock that is being dredged up and beamed into our homes! In addition, I truly appreciate those rare times when I say to myself, “I wish I had thought of that first”! Such is the case with the new PBS reality show “The Winemakers.” PBS’ first foray into the reality genre (but hopefully, not the last, as I have a couple shows perfect for them) centers around twelve wine enthusiasts from various walks of Life who are competing for the dream once-in-a-lifetime chance to launch their own wine label nationwide! There are, of course, the requisite challenges and eliminations. Shot in California wine country, we follow their progress from with the eventual winner going from “the grape to the bottle to the store shelf” right before the viewers’ eyes.

The series’ judges include Mark Oldman, author of “Oldman’s Guide to Outsmarting Wine,” Leslie Sbrocco, author of “The Simple & Savvy Wine Guide,” Lettie Teague of Food & Wine Magazine, and Doug Frost, Master of Wine.
There was no better way to unveil the series than in the marvelous little jewel of a restaurant, Rayuela (165 Allen St b/t Rivington & Stanton)! We got to view the first episode while noshing on some of the most exquisite food to ever cross my lips! (I was teasing the owner that the food was cooked with such delicacy and passion that I wanted to marry the chef! And one of the servers came right out of every girl’s dream, he was so hunky!) I am happy to report that the show is quite engaging and still maintains the sophistication that one would expect of a PBS show.
The Winemakers premieres this September on your PBS affiliate.
