Snowboard Champs Eero & Heikki
I love snowboarding, as I really can’t figure how people do it without breaking their flippin’ necks! I mean, like really, how do you pull off your first lipslide or 1080 without killing or paralyzing yourself?! To meet some of the star daredevils of the sport, I traipsed in the blistering cold to the Oakley Store/Soho for their in-store reception to honor their illustrious snowboard team.
Chatted with the uniquely named Finnish snowboard phenoms, Eero Ettala and Heikki Sorsa (a.k.a. “the Flying Fin”) who were incredibly cool! Heikki even gave me a glimpse of his tats. They kindly invited us to the actual exhibition the following day. But it was scheduled to be in the low ‘20s in Manhattan and although I love the sport, I really detest cold weather! So I regrettably had to give it a miss!

The elder statesman of snowboarding Norwegian legend, Terje Haakonsen was also purportedly in the house but was not readily accessible. No gift bags but the boys autographed Oakley scarves and their Oakley posters as the take away. The food was absolutely fantastic and featured a yummy grilled shrimp with a sweet sauce, steak kebabs with a yogurt dip, sushi, and salmon toast.
