This weekend, two new movies opened that TGATP thoroughly enjoyed! Starring Jason Stratham, Safe is an action-packed, thrill-ride with snappy dialogue. And The Raven is a great period piece for John Cusack and Edgar Allan Poe fans!
American Reunion is the perfect film to lift you out of any lingering Winter blues and get you chuckle ready for Spring. The gangs all back just as we came to know and love them!
Since bullying affects 13 million kids every day, “The Bully Project” is the one film that every family in America should see. So ignore the ridiculous R-rating, it could save your child or his schoolmates’ lives.
Mirror Mirror is the perfect mother-daughter girl’s day at the movies. It is visually stunning with a tour-de-force performance from Julia Roberts as the evil, but hilarious, stepmother.
It’s the Oscar holiday weekend! Check out my predictions – in bold is who TGATP would like to see win, underlined are my predictions to win.
Delivering his usual mix of snappy dialogue filmed in multiple exotic locales, Soderbergh describes Haywire as “a Pam Grier movie made by Alfred Hitchcock” and I would agree. With a revenge plot full of holes and cheesy acting from the lead, Haywire does, indeed, feel like an homage to ’70s exploitation films.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is the best action film of the year and the very best in the whole Mission franchise. Your mission this Christmas is to see this movie. Choose to accept it!
Smart, action-packed and hilarious, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is the one to see this holiday season! Chockfull of explosions, gunfire, fist fights, and slapstick, Guy Ritchie’s second stab at the Sherlock franchise is far more exciting than the first one.and makes my top ten for the year. It’s an absolute TGATP must-see!
Puss in Boots is so much fun that it makes my 2011 Top Ten list! It is one of those rare movies that is perfect as both a family film and a date night flick. The 3D animation will appeal to the wee ones while the grown-up humor will add to that delight for adult audiences! Meow, indeed!
Last night, The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Paramount Home Entertainment hosted a gala event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the most beloved films in cinematic history and a TGATP favorite: Breakfast At Tiffany’s. It was an elegant evening and simply the perfect way to end Fashion Week!
The remake of Fright Night is one of the rare times when the new version is better than the original! Thanks to the menacing performance by Colin Farrell and great direction and pacing from director Craig Gillepsie, this film delivers some truly terrifying moments. Do not expect the same horror lite that the original movie delivered; there are some really scary moments in this one.
More gross than scary, Final Destination 5 is cheesy good fun! After viewing the FD series, you will never be able to look at tanning beds, accupuncture, or laser surgery the same way again!
This week, there are two new films that I can recommend that you see. For thought-provoking thrills see The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the prequel to the Planet of the Apes series, which tells the story of how the world gets taken over by the apes in a compelling and plausible way. Then for laughs, check out the Ryan Reynolds/Jason Bateman vehicle “The Change-Up” manages to keep you rolling in the aisles while still making you think.
Cowboys and Aliens is perfect for every type of movie trip. Fun for the whole family, it is also a great date night or girl’s night out film.
Jennifer Muller/The Works is TGATP’s favorite dance company. Thus, I was very blessed to be invited to the Opening Night Gala for her newest work,”The White Room.” Passionate, violent, intriguing, disturbing, and thought-provoking, the piece – Muller’s first full-length dance in fifteen years – is extraordinary.
The first big blockbuster of the summer, X-Men: First Class positively rocks! From start to finish, it’s an unrelenting, action-packed, special effects filled, wonderful roller coaster ride of a movie! A must-see!
Tree of Life, like a Seinfeld episode, is about nothing. Highly pretentious in its experimentalism, this film is only for two types – the most ardent of film aficionados or stoners, who will marvel at the visuals.
Kung Fu Panda 2 is a barrel of rollicking fun with more storyline and far more action than the first. Finally, a movie where the 3D is actually put to use in an imaginative way that actually adds to the entertainment value. And, like the best animated films, the script provides tons of laughs for, not just kids, but every age group.
